Risk factors for AAA?

A

Pfo rest degree relative, smoking, hypertension, age, male (6:1)

Presentation of a ruptured AAA

A

Pulsatilla abdo mass, abdo pain radiating to back, tachy, hypotension

Investigations

A

Bloods (Hb and CLOTTING), pregnancy test, ultrasound, CT in patients who do not need to be rushed to treatment

Management

A

ABCDE, 2 large bore cannula to keep blood and fluid levels high until it can be closed

Surveillance

A

Less than 5 cm = 5year survival of 80%
Less than 6 = 10% chance of rupture
Less than 7 = 30% chance of rupture

What size must it be for surgery to be considered ?

A

Must be at least 5.5 cm in diameter

What is it?

A

Enlargement of the aorta of at least 1.5 times than it is further up or greater than 3 cm in total
