What is AD gen char

A

Def: MC dementia that affects memory, higher learning, reasoning, behavior and emotion

Cause:
tau -> neurofibrillary tangles -> nerve cell death
amyloid precursor protein -> plaques form from clumps -> block cell-to-cell signaling at synapses -> activate immune system to inflame and devour disabled cells

A
  • Evidence of significant cognitive decline from previous level of performance in cognitive decline
  • cognitive deficits interfere with everyday activities
  • cognitive deficits do not occur exclusively in the context of delirium
  • cognitive deficits not explained by another mental disorder

  • same as major neurocognitive but modest cognitive decline

  • criteria met for probable or possible AD
  • disturbance not better explained by other disease
