1
Q

Compound A

A

Product of sevoflurane interacting w/ CO2 in the respiratory machine at low rates

2
Q

Nitrous Oxide

A

Potent analgesic; weak anesthetic

ADRs: Must administer w/ at least 30% O2 or possibility of the “bends”
-Chronic exposure can also breakdown VitB12 and cause megaloblastic anemia

3
Q

Propofol-Related Infusion Syndrome

A
Fever
Elevated Heart
Vital Signs compromised
Elevated enzymes
Rhabomyolysis, Renal Failure
(looks like Malignant Hyperthermia)

-Concurrent Alfentanil use can ppt. seizures

4
Q

Etomidate

A

Decrease blood flow to the brain =» Great for neurosurgery

5
Q

Thiopental (Spit barbiturates to make you rub your tits and shit)

A

Used for rapid sedation; recovery from this drug is due to redistribution from the brain to the periphery

-Depresses respiration, CV fnxn (like other barbiturates)

CI: PORPHYRIA

6
Q

Halothane (and other inhaled anesthetics)

A

Potent anesthetic; weak analgesic

ADRs: Vagomimetric =» Bradycardia, hypotension, decreased CO
Respiratory =» Brain decreased sensitivity to CO2

⭐️Metabolized to hepatotoxic Br- ions

***Enflurane can also cause seizures and has increased paralysis but Potentiates the effects of muscle relaxants

***Isoflurane has less ADRs

7
Q

Opioids on surgery (fentanyl mostly)

A

Used for cardiac surgeries because it preserves myocardial activity

⭐️use with Propofol can cause respiratory arrest in pediatrics tho
