1
Q

What is the equation for magnification?

A

Magnification=measured length/actual length

2
Q

What are the common features of plant and animal cells?

A

Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, Mitochondria (site of respiration) and ribosomes (make protein)

3
Q

What do you plant cells have that animal cell don’t?

A

Chloroplasts, large permanent vacuole, Celulose cell wall.

4
Q

What is a plants cellulose cell wall for?

A

Provides structural support and protect against damage caused by osmotic intake of water.

5
Q

What is the purpose of the large permanent vacuole in a plant cell?

A

It contains water necessary to provide turgor pressure and may store ions and molecules.

6
Q

What are the purpose of chloroplasts in plant cells?

A

They contain the pigment called chlorophyll (for light absorption) and the enzymes necessary for the production of glucose by photosynthesis.

7
Q

What is the purpose of the cell membrane?

A

It surrounds the cytoplasm. It controls the entry and exit of dissolved substances and separates the cell’s content from it’s surroundings.

8
Q

What is the purpose of the cytoplasm?

A

It contains water and dissolved substances such as sugar and salt. Chemical reactions go on in organelles. For example proteins are made in ribosomes and the energy is released by Respiration in mitochondria.

9
Q

What is the purpose of the nucleus?

A

It contains the genetic material (DNA which makes up genes on the chromosomes).

10
Q

What is the function of mitochondria?

A

They are the site of respiration.

11
Q

What is the function of ribosomes?

A

The site of protein synthesis.
