what is malaria caused by?

A

malaria is caused by a eukaryotic protoctista from the genus Plasmodium
Plasmodium falciparum is the most widespread but there are other species which cause malaria

what is HIV/AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome caused by?

A

HIV/AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus - the Human immunodeficiency virus can enter the body and remain inactive this is known as being HIV positive

once the virus becomes active - it attacks and destroys Th cells in the immune system
these Th cells normally help to prevent infection

you therefore will be unable to defend yourself against any pathogen and may contract a range of opportunistic infections

A

Influenza is caused by the influenza virus

influenza virus attacks the respiratory system and causes muscle pains and headaches

what is Tuberculosis caused by?

A

TB is caused by a airborne bacterium
there are 2 types of species of this bacterium:
Mycobacterium tuberculosis and M.bovis

TB is a widespread disease that mainly affects the respiratory system and is transmitted through droplet infection
However, it can affect any part of the body

A

bacterial meningitis is caused by a bacteria
e.g. Streptococcus pneumonia
Meningitis is an acute inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord - known collectively as the meninges

ringworm is caused by a fungi called Trichophyton verrucosum
Tricophyton verrucosum is a spore forming fungi
