What does ATP stand for?
Adenosine triphosphate
How is ATP made?
Its made from the energy released from glucose
What is ATP made up of?
Nucleotide base adenine
Ribose sugar
Three phosphate groups
What is the function of ATP?
ATP diffuses to the part of the cell that needs energy
Where is the energy in ATP stored?
In high energy bonds between the phosphate groups
What is ATP broken down into?
ADP (Adenosine diphosphate) and an inorganic phosphate
What reaction breaks ATP into ADP?
Hydrolysis
What releases the energy when the ATP breaks down?
The bond between two of the phosphate groups breaking
What enzyme catalyses the breakdown of ATP?
ATP hydrolase
What use can the inorganic phosphate have?
It can be added to another compound, Phosphorylation
Makes the compound more reactive
What reaction resynthsises ATP?
Condensation
What enzyme catalyses the resynthesis of ATP?
ATP synthase
