1
Q

What do plants use for their source of energy?

A

Light

2
Q

How do plants produce food?

A

Photosynthesis

3
Q

What type of reaction is photosynthesis?

A

Endothermic, energy is taken in

4
Q

Where does photosynthesis take place?

A

Leaves

5
Q

What do leaves contain?

A

Chloroplasts that contain chlorophyll which is a chemical that can absorb light energy

6
Q

Word Equation for photosynthesis?

A

CO2 + H20 —-> C6H12O6 + O2

7
Q

What happens as light energy increases?

A

Rate of photosynthesis increases

8
Q

What are the limiting factors on photosynthesis?

A

Carbon dioxide
Light intensity
Temperature
Chlorophyll

9
Q

What happens when light intensity reaches a point where it does not make photosynthesis increase ?

A

At this point something else is in short supply , for example carbon dioxide

10
Q

How does chlorophyll effect the rate of photosynthesis?

A

Increase in chlorophyll increase in photosynthesis

11
Q

How temperature effects the rate of photosynthesis?

A

Increase in temperature means an increase in photosynthesis , unless it is too hot as enzymes will denature

12
Q

How carbon dioxide effects the rate of photosynthesis?

A

More CO2 more photosynthesis

13
Q

What is glucose used for in plants?

A
  • protein synthesis
  • to release energy in respiration
  • produce insoluble storage of starch molecule
  • to make cellulose which gives the cell wall strength
14
Q

What is cellulose made from ?

A

Glucose from photosynthesis

15
Q

What is needed for protein to be made?

A

Nitrate ions from the soil aswell as glucose

16
Q

Why can plants respire at night without light?

A
  • insoluble storage molecule of starch

- starch can be converted back to glucose whenever the plant wants

17
Q

How fats and oils are used in plants?

A

As storage form of energy

18
Q

Where does respiration take place?

A

Mitochondria

19
Q

Why farmers use greenhouses?

A

Increase the rate of photosynthesis as this increases the yield of crops they produce. To do this farmers light and heat there green houses . Also add CO2

20
Q

What do some farmers use?

A

Oil burners as they release heat and CO2 at the same time.
