Order of the structures in the carotid sheath

A

Medial - Common Carotid Art
Lateral IJV

With the vagus in between

Where would we put in a central line and why?

A

The right IJV because:

  • Its has a straight path to the SVC
  • Bigger than the left IJV
  • No risk of injuring the thoracic duct
  • More likely to cause pneumothorax on the left as the lung is higher

A

Between the heads of the SCM

A

It branches off the maxillary art and passes into the skull through foramen spinosum

Then it grooves the skull internally under the pterion

Function of the Stapedius and Tensor Tympani?

A

TT - Dampens the vibrations of the Tympanic membrane in order to dampen out any background sounds of the body like chewin

Stapedius - Stabilizes the Stapes, effectively dampening overly loud sounds

When do the fontanelles fuse?

A

Posterior fontanelle - 2 to 3 months
Sphenoidal fontanelle - 6 months
Mastoid fontanelle - 6 to 18 months
Anterior fontanelle - 18–24 months.

Where in the larynx does epithelium change?

A

Its non-keratinized Stratified Squamous until just below the vocal chords.

The false vocal chord and everything below the true one is Pseudostratified Ciliated Columnar epithelium
