How to determine respiration rate in an infant

A

Count number of times abdomen rises, instead of chest.

Belly breathing because rib cage is less developed and is less rigid

What are the neonatal reflexes

A

moro reflex - (startle reflex) arms open wide, spreads fingers, seems to grab at things.
Palmar grasp - place something in palm
Rooting reflex - touch cheek, turns head towards that side.
Sucking reflex - stroke lips to start suckling

What is secure attachment?

A

Bonding or formation of close personal relationships. Opposite is anxious-avoidance in infants who have been repeatedly rejected.
