Flashcards in Determination of RBC parameters Deck (9):
1

Hct meaning (haematocrit)

Percentage of the volume of a sample of blood occupied by red cells

2

MCV meaning

Mean corpuscular volume

3

MCH meaning

Mean corpuscular haemoglobin

4

MCHC meaning

Mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration

5

What is used to do the red cell count?

Haematocytometer

6

How is haematocrit measured?

Drawing up some blood via capillary action and centrifuging the tube. Then the plasma will seperate to the top and red adn white at bottom. Ratio of length of red cell column and plasma/red cell is Hct

7

How is the haemoglobin conc in the whole blood measured

Releasing the haemoglobin from the red cells and converting it to the stable derivative cyanmethaemoglobin that is ready to be compared to the standard using the spectophotometer

8

How to calculate an unknown Hb concentration

absorbance of test solution x concentration of standard / absorbance of standard solution

9

How to calculate MCV using Hct and RBC

MCV = Hct/ RBCx100
