What is the circle of security?

A

Parents act as a secure base for their child allowing them to explore thing in life but knowing they have security and protection to come back to.

A

Ability to reflect upon and understand one’s state of mind

What is the containment theory?

A

The ability to ‘contain’ your own emotions so they don’t spill inappropriately onto your child.

What is the purpose of ‘lookaway’ by a child

A

This is when the baby attempts to self regulate as well as process information so immature nervous system is not overwhelmed. This presents as them turning away, rejecting stimulant or signalling behaviour eg, crying or fussing.

What is reciprocity?

A

When both parent and child are involved in the initiation, regulation and termination of an interaction. This is a fundamental part of attachment
