1
Q

What is oncotic pressure?

A

The pressure exerted by the blood proteins with a charge

2
Q

What is hydrostatic pressure?

A

associated with blood pressure

3
Q

What is the drop of hydrostatic pressure from entering the capillaries from the arterial side and exiting from the venous side?

A

17mmHg; this is due to the constant resistance of the capillaries

4
Q

What happens during elevated hydrostatic pressure? i.e. elevated blood pressure?

A

During elevated hydrostatic pressure there is more fluid being filtered (moving OUT) of the plasma; therefore there is less absorption; this creates edema of the interstitial fluid

5
Q

What happens when hydrostatic pressure drops? i.e. hypotension?

A

When hydrostatic pressure drops, oncotic pressure goes up meaning more fluid is being drawn into the plasma; think of it as a way for the body to retain fluid in hypotensive shock w/ massive blood loss

6
Q

Oncotic pressure increases or decreases as fluid moves through the capillaries?

A

oncotic pressure increases

7
Q

Hydrostatic pressure increases or decreases as fluid moves through the capillaries?

A

hydrostatic pressure decreases

8
Q

Which is greater: the net filtration or the net absorption as fluid moves through the capillaries?

A

the net filtration is greater; the fluid moving out of the capillaries is then picked up by the lymphatic system

9
Q

This ion is not fully reabsorbed in the proximal tubule

A

Chloride
