When and what was Fiume?

A

1924
Mussolini persuaded the Yugoslavian gov to accept annexation of Fiume in the treaty of Rome Jan 1924. This would establish order there.

A

1923
Greece didn’t financially compensate Italy for death of Italian soldiers so Mussolini bombarded Corfu, killing civilians and occupying it.

A

1925

Agreement which recognised the borders between Germany, France and Belgium. Mussolini acted as a mediator.

When was Dolfuss killed and what was the result?

A

July 1934 - assassinated by Austrian Nazis

Mussolini used it to show Italian commitment to protect Austria by military force if necessary.

A

April 1935
Britain, France and Italy agreed to join against the German threat. In reality it didn’t bring them closer together. (E.g. Anglo German naval treaty)

A

1928
Italy, Britain, France and Germany agreed to settle disputes peacefully and condemn war. Mussolini didn’t really agree and wanted to prepare for war.
