1
Q

Feature Detectors

A

cells are very particular about what will make them fire

2
Q

Simple Cell

A

responds maximally to a bar of a certain orientation in a particular region of the retina, sensitive to the location of the bar within the receptive field

3
Q

Complex Cell

A

responds maximally to a bar of a certain orientation and direction of movement, regardless of where the bar is located within the receptive field

4
Q

Hypercomplex Cell

A

respond maximally to a bar of a particular orientation and direction of movement, ending at specific points within the receptive field

5
Q

Extrastriate Cortex

A
  • Where visual integration begins
    • Has multiple subregions that each receive a different type of information from the primary visual cortex about the visual scene
    • Info begins to be segregated into 2 streams according to which type of info is processed
6
Q

Dorsal Stream

A

processes where objects are located in visual scene, takes info from PVC to parietal cortex which processes spatial info
goes to parietal cortex

7
Q

Ventral Stream

A

processes info about what the object is including form and colour, takes info from PVC to temporal cortex where all bits of feature info come together
goes to temporal lobe

8
Q

Temporal Cortex

A
  • Arranged in vertical columns that are oriented perpendicularly to surface of cortex
    • Respond to more complex stimuli
    • 5 layers of neurons within each cortical column
    • Each layer responds to slightly different features within the category
9
Q

Cataracts

A

like a thick cloud in the lens of your eye

10
Q

Object Agnosia

A

inability to perceive objects

11
Q

Prosopagnosia

A

inability to recognize faces

12
Q

Primary Visual Cortex

A

responds to lines of specific orientation and motion

13
Q

Temporal Lobe

A

responds to more complex stimuli like hands, faces
