What is Horner’s Syndrome

A

A syndrome caused by interruption of the sympathetic pupillomotor fibres anywhere along their course

What signs are present in Horner’s Syndrome

A

Ptosis
Meiosis
Enophthalmos
Anhidrosis

What are some causes of Horner’s Syndrome

A

Hypothalamic lesions - craniopharyngioma
Brainstem lesions - MS, infarction
Cervical cord lesion - syringomyelia
T1 root lesion - Pancoast tumour, cervical rib
Sympathetic chain - surgical damage in the neck, trauma from a misguided central line

What would you expect to find in congenital Horner’s

A

Iris heterochromia - difference in colour between two eyes as lack of sympathetic stimulation interferes with melanin pigmentation
