Q

What us null hypothesis testing

A
  • Inferential statistical tests to see whether the null hypothesis should be accepted or rejected
  • Shows the probability of whether null hypothesis has occurred by chance
  • High value would indicate there is high probability the results are due to chance

Q

Describe significance level

A
  • Probability associated with inferential test called p value
  • Ranges from 0-1
  • Tells us whether results are significant or non-significant
  • Significant = p value lower than 0.5
  • Non-significant = p value is above 0.5

Q

Describe statistical significance

A
  • These results occur when the probability of null hypothesis being true is less than 5%
  • If a statistically significant difference occurs it doesn’t mean it is psychologically significant

  • Type 1 error
  • Type 2 error
