Flashcards in Lecture 1 Deck (6)
What is population Ecology?
A sub-field of ecology that deals with population dynamics or demographics. how they change over time, across sites, and response to environmental factors
What is demography?
The study of the size, structure and distribution of populations. birth rates, death rates, immigration and emigration
What is population structure?
Ways in which a population can be divided into sub-populations, mostly sex and age
What is community ecology?
sub field of ecology that deals with interactions between species that co-occur in time and space. coexisting populations and thier biological interactions.
Competition, predation, parasitism, mutualism, commensalism, ammensalism
What is commensalism?
When 1 species benefits and the other is relatively unaffected
