What is meant by the term ‘untermenschen’?

A

It means sub-humans. Nazis believed that all other races were untermenschens.

What is meant by the term ‘Aryan’?

A

The Aryan people were a race of people that had the features of blond hair and blue eyes. This applied to Nazi Germany and they also had to have pure German routes and be able to prove it.

What did the Nazi believe?

A

They believed that the German people were the master race who were superior to all other races. Germans who fitted with the Aryan description ere encouraged to have children and marry whereas those who didn’t were not and sometimes sterilised.

How did the Nazis view people with disabilities?

A

They believed that their disabilities would be passed on to the next generation so, at first, they sterilised anyone who was mentally of physically ill. During the war, they began to secretly murder them in specialised hospitals.

How did the Nazis view gypsies?

A

They were viewed as a problem because they were not Aryan, moved around too often and could not hold down a job. Many were sent to concentration camps

How did the Nazis view black people?

A

They were dealt with in a similar way to Jews. Marriages between Germans and black people were made illegal. Children born from a mixed race couple were sterilised.
