Which drugs should be stopped prior to surgery?

  • COCP
  • MAOIs
  • TCAs: risk of arrhythmias and hypotension
  • Lithium: risk of toxicity
  • Spironolactone; diuretics: risk of hyperkalaemia
  • ACEi/ARBs: stop 24h prior; risk of severe hypotension
  • Herbal medicines: potential interaction with anaesthetic
