1
Q

what are the steps of atherosclerotic plaques?

A
  • endothleial damage
  • protective respone results in production of callular adhesion molecules
  • monocytes and T lymphocytes attach to sticky surfaces of endothelial cells
  • migrate through arterial wall to subendothelial space
  • macrophages take up oxidised LDL-C
  • lipid-rich foam cells
  • fatty streak and plaque
2
Q

what is LDL cholesterol?

A
  • associated with atheroscleosis and CHD events

- 10% increase results in a 20% increase in CHD risk

3
Q

what are triglycerides?

A
  • increased risk of CHD events
  • normal triglyceride levels 2.3mmol/l
  • very high triglycerides 11.3mmol/l increased pancretitis risk
