1
Q

Squatting Characteristics

A
Hip strategy:
initiate w/ hip
fwd trunk as hips move back
GRF farther from hip than knee
knees over toes
Maintain neutral spine

if vert tibia: COM way back
ex: wall squat strengthens quad not hip

2
Q

Lifting characteristics

A

Initiate at hip
Simultaneous hip back trunk fwd
Neutral spine: erector spinae isomet then concent at end
Back muscles dont do actual lifting

3
Q

Why asses squats

A
Common exercise
ADL
Sit-stand/lifiting motion
Preferred strategy
Produces LE sx- knee pain
4
Q

Squat

Phases

A

Lowering: initial stand to peak knee flex
Elevation: Peak knee flex to standing

5
Q

Squat

Objectives

A

WB stability

Elevate/lower COM

6
Q

Squat

WB Stabil Critical events

A

Hip Stability: neutral hip in frontal/transverse plane

Trunk Stability: neutral spine in saggital plane

7
Q

Squat

COM Critical events

A

Equal use hip/knee extensors- hip strategy

8
Q

Squat

Trunk Stability

A

Neutral Spine:
flexion torque- wt in front of spine
greatest torque is at thoracis- traps/rhombs working

Lumbar flexed: more torque on muscles, lordotic curve moves from GRF

maintin neutral via trunk muscles: abs, oblqs, back extens to isometrically stabilize trunk

9
Q

Knee strategy

squat Problems

A

More likely into valgus: abductors arent used- lose control over secondary plane
Lead with knees: run out of DF range- heels off ground
Try to protect back: squat with upright trunk

10
Q

Lifting

Phases

A

Lowering: initial stand to contact with object
Elevation: contact with object to standing

11
Q

Lifiting

Objectives

A

WBS

Elevate/Lower COM

12
Q

Lifting

WB Stability

A

Hip Stability: neutral hip in frontal plane

Trunk Stability: neutral spine in saggital

13
Q

Lifting

COM

A

Equal use hip/knee extensors (hip strategy)

14
Q

Knee Strategy

Lifting Problems

A

Want weight as close to body as possible: lever arm increases as lean forward

Lead with knee: not sitting to get close, instead flex spin to reach

Rounded back: extend concentrically to get up

15
Q

Torque/Moment

A

rotational potential of forces about axis

F x Lever arm= moment

16
Q

Lever Arm

A

Perpendic distance from line of force to axis rotation

internal: muscle
External: body wt/external wt
