Pronation Supination

5
Q

What are the movements of the wrist joint?

A

Flexion Extension Ulnar and radial deviation

6
Q

How do you test movements at the scapulothoracic joint?

A

Ask patient to shrug their shoulders for elevation. Ask patient to push their shoulders down for depression. Ask patient to pull their arms forward and together in front of their chest for abduction/protraction. Ask patient to raise their arms for upward rotation. Ask patient to bring their shoulder blades together on their back (pull arms backwards) for adduction/retraction.

7
Q

How do you test movements at the shoulder joint?

A

Ask patient to hold their hands out in front of them with arms straight, and from that position lift their arms up as high as they can (flexion) then back down to their sides (extension). Ask patient to raise their arms out to the side away from their body (like wings or snow angel) for abduction, then back down to their sides for adduction. For circumduction, ask the patient to move their arms in a circle to their side.

8
Q

How do you test movements at the elbow joint?

A

Ask patient to bend their elbow (flexion) and straighten their elbow (extension).

9
Q

How do you test movements at the proximal and distal radio-ulnar joints?

A

Ask patient to stretch their arms out in front of their body and twist them so the palms are facing the ceiling (supination) and facing the floor (pronation).
