1
Q

Sympathomimetics vs/ lyitcs

A

Lytics will prevent

Mimetics will activate

2
Q

NE and septic shock

A

Used to increase systemic arterial blood pressure in septick shock by stimulating alpha1-adrenergic receptors

3
Q

NE on alpha 1 and beta 1

A

Alpha 1 - vasoconstriction
Beta 1 - positive inotropic

Increases cardiac output and would be effective in cardiogenic shock

4
Q

Pseudoephedrine

A

Mimetic used in cold prep

Constricts nasal mucosa and blood vessels leading to decreased resistance to air flow

Alpha 1 mediated

5
Q

Pseduophedrine side effects

A

Increased BP and insomnia

6
Q

Pseudophedrine drug interactions

A

MAOIs, TCAs or amphetamines

7
Q

Mydriatic effects

A

Alpha 1 agonists can be used to produce mydriasis

8
Q

Epineprhine and albuterol

A

Beta 2 adrenergic mimetics

Still work on Beta 1 but prefer beta 2…activate cellular processes using cAMP

9
Q

Activation of beta 2 results in

A

Bronchodilation and increase in airway resistance

10
Q

Epineprhine

A

Beta 2 agonist to tx respiratory distress or bronchospasm (asthma or allergic reactions)

11
Q

Beta 1 target use

A

Can help provide inotropic support to patients with decompensated herat failure

12
Q

Neuro uses of beta blockers

A

Glaucoma (timolo)
Migraine
Performance anxiety
Essential tremor

13
Q

Neuro side effects of beta blockers

A

Fatigue, depression, drowsiness
