Rifampin - inhibits RNA pol
Metronidazol - destroys DNA and RNA in anaerobes
Fluoroquinolones - inhibit DNA gyrase and topoisomerase
Aminoglycosides - 30s inhibitors
Beta-Lactams - inhibit transpeptidase.
Polypeptide antibiotics, Colistin, Polymyxin B. - porate gram negatives, only for topical use.

A

Severe infections such as:
Endocarditis
Meningitis
All infections in immunocompromised people.

Types of antibiotic therapy:

A

Empiric: when theres no time, in critically ill patients, must give strong broad ab’s to manage the infection.
Empiric combination therapy should not be administered for morethan 3–5 days. De-escalation to the most appropriate single therapy should be performed as soon as the susceptibility profile is
known,

Sensitivity based: on screening of the susceptibility

Prophylactic
