A

if presents within 24 hours, use an occular massage to try to convert CRAO to BRAO

A

monitor for development of new vessels, laser treatment may be required to avoid complications

arteritic ION (occurs in giant cell arteritis)?

A

prevent visual loss in other eye
Immediate high dose steroid may prevent the other eye going blind
refer urgently

A

identify cause, vitrectomy for non-resolving cases

retinal detachment?

A

usually surgical

wet age related macular degeneration

A

anti VEGF injected into the vitreoui cavity (stops growth of new blood vessels)

cataracts?

A

surgical removal with intraocular lens implant if patient is symptomatic

Dry age related macular degeneration?

A

treatment is supportive eg with magnifiers

Open angle glaucoma?

A

pressure lowering eye drops or surgery

conjunctivitis?

A

clears in about 14 days without treatment

topical antibiotic clears it faster

corneal ulcers?

A

corneal scape for gram stain and culture to determine cause, antimicrobial if bacterial, antiviral if herpetic (acyclovir)
If autoimmune, give anti-inflammatoryy 5x a day (oral/topical steroids)

anterior uveitis?

A

mydriatics, steroids, investigate for systemic associations

episcleritis

A

self limiting

steroids

scleritis?

A

oral NSAIDs, oral steroids, steroid sparing agents

orbital cellulitis?

A

hospital
IV Flucloxacillin +ceftriaxone + metronidazole
surgery if orbital collectin

A

lid hygeine
supplementary tear drops
oral doxycycline for 2-3 months
very difficult to eradicate

A

laser, surgery, rehabilitation
