A

Tumors come from the mesodermal tissue (connective tissues like bone, fat, muscles

cancers are called sarcomes and are very rare

they like to metastasize to the lung

non ossifying fibroma, enchondroma, unicameral bone cyst, fibroust dysplasia, eosinophilic granuloma, aneurismal bone cyst, giant cell tumor of bone

MSK history indicatiors

A

age

mass formation (may not be rapid)

pain (night achy pain in bone tumors, painless in soft tissue)

history of prostate, lung, breast, thryoid or renal.

Physical exam: Tenderness, mass, joint swelling, limp

MSK tumors tests

A

X rays of the limb: bony destruction

boine scan: bony activity, skip lesions

MRI: assess soft tissue anatomy

CT chest/ abdomen/ pelvis: look for primary or mets to lung

Other lab work to check for other caues. Anemia, infection, meyloma, thyroid, renal, rpostate, breast, lung

MSK tumors rule of thumb

A

over age of 40 bone tumors are most likely metatstatic

growing soft tissue masses are most likely malignant
