We created these adaptive EA flashcards in partnership with HOCK International, which, for decades, has devoted itself to the goal of developing relevant, cutting-edge content for future-leaning credentials. Today, they are a trusted, global name in professional exam prep, making them the perfect partner to create the ultimate study weapon for EA candidates like you!

What Is an Enrolled Agent and What Do They Do?

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally licensed tax practitioner authorized by the IRS to represent taxpayers in all matters before the agency. EAs have unlimited rights to prepare tax returns, provide tax advice, and defend clients during audits or collections.

Compared to CPAs or tax attorneys, EAs focus exclusively on federal tax. While CPAs are licensed by individual states and may also do auditing or accounting work, EAs are federally recognized and often work independently or in tax-focused practices.

To become an EA, candidates must either:

  • Pass all three parts of the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE), or
  • Qualify through relevant IRS experience

The SEE exam covers Individual Tax (Part 1), Business Tax (Part 2), and Representation, Practices, and Procedures (Part 3).

Why Use Flashcards to Study for the Enrolled Agent Exam?

The EA exam tests thousands of IRS rules, forms, and exceptions. Flashcards are a powerful and efficient study method to retain that dense information.

  • Flashcards help you memorize information quickly and lock all those complex tax codes, filing thresholds, deadlines, and procedural rules into your memory.
  • Brainscape uses active recall and spaced repetition, which are proven to optimize memory retention. Active recall means testing yourself to pull the answer from memory, which strengthens retention. Spaced repetition resurfaces material just before you're likely to forget it, so you memorize more in less time.
  • Compared to IRS publications or heavy textbooks, flashcards are lightweight, focused, and mobile-friendly. Our flashcards are fully synced across web and mobile so you can pick up where you left off on any device, anywhere, any time.
  • You can flip through cards on your phone between clients, in transit, on the treadmill, while waiting in the dentist’s office, or whenever you have 5 minutes to spare.
  • Finally, we created these in partnership with HOCK International, so you can trust that the content is up-to-date and accurate.

Brainscape’s flashcards are the perfect supplement to your prep course. Our smart, personalised algorithm is designed to reinforce the information you’re most likely to forget.
