What does ADA stand for?
Americans with Disabilities Act. Developed in 1990, this act was is a set of prescriptive guidelines for the construction (or alteration) of buildings to accommodate needs of “persons with disabilities.”

What items are exempt and not required to be accessible?
- Raised areas used primarily for security or life safety (security stations, lifeguard towers)
- Temporary Facilities needed for construction (trailers, scaffolding)
- Non-occupiable service areas infrequently accessed for maintenance (catwalks, mechanical rooms)
- Water slides
- Animal containment areas
- Raised structures for officiating sporting events
- Raised boxing & wrestling rings
