brown sequard syndrome
- hemisection of the spinal cord damaging the corticospinal tract
- ipsilateral damage- (above- hypotonic paralysis) (below- spastic paralysis, vibration and proprioception and fine touch)
- contralateral damage_ loss of pain and temp sensation
Brown- Sequard Syndrome above the level of T1
Horner’s syndrome
subaracnoid hemorrhage
- worst headache of my life
- easily identified upon brain examination as there is a big bleed at the bottom of the brain
- occurs most frequently as a result of ruptured berry aneurysm
berry aneurysms
thin walled outpouchings that are most frequently present in the anterior part of the circle of willis (particularly at the branch points of the anterior communicating artery)
- can easily rupture because they lack a media layer
talk and die syndrome associated with
epidural hematoma
- refers to lucid interval preceding neurologic signs
epidural hematoma
- bleed between dura and skull
- lens shaped on MRI can go unnoticed
herniation in brain
- pushing of one part of the brain onto another part of the brain
4 types of herniation
1- herniation of the cerebellar tonsils
2- subfalcine herniation
3- uncal herniation
4-
tonsillar herniation
herniation of the tonsils into the foramen magnum which compresses the brain stem
