A

UC

  • widespread irregular superficial ulceration (sloughing off of mucosal layer)
  • abnormal crypt architecture
  • no granulomas
  • normal wall thickness, minimal fibrosis

CD

  • fissured ulceration causing ‘cobblestone’ appearance
  • normal crypt architecture
  • granulomas
  • wall thickened, marked wall fibrosis
