1. The forearm Flashcards

1
Q

describe the arrangement of muscles in the anterior compartment of the arm

A

4 superficial muscles with common flexor tendon at medial epicondyle of humerus:

  1. pronator teres
  2. flexor carpi radialis
  3. palmaris longus
  4. flexor carpi ulnaris

1 intermediate muscle:
5. flexor digitorum superficialis

3 deep muscles:

  1. flexor digitorum profundus
  2. flexor pollicis longus
  3. pronator quadratus

Q

what is the difference between FDS and FDP

A

FDS splits into 4 tendons at wrist and inserts into MIDDLE PHALANGES of 4 fingers. Functions:

i. wrist flexion
ii. MCP joint flexion
iii. proximal IP joint flexion

FDP splits into 4 tendons at wrist (passes through carpal tunnel) and inserts into DISTAL PHALANGES of 4 fingers. Functions:

i. wrist flexion
ii. MCP joint flexion
iii. distal IP joint flexion
