What are the main types of anal carcinoma?
Anal Carcinoma is most commonly a squamous cell carcinoma; however, you can also get adenocarcinomas, lymphomas and melanomas of the anus.

What will you find on a history taking of anal carcinoma?
Symptoms:
Bleeding
Pain
Change in bowel habit -Incontinence
Pruritis
Stricture formation
Mass
Peri-anal Abscess
Risk Factors:
Anal Sex
HPV
HIV
Specific Questions to ask:
History of MSM sex or anal sex
Differentials:
Crohns
Perianal Warts
Haemorrhoids
Rectal Cancer

What investigations will you use in anal carcinoma?
Imaging:
Examination under anaesthesia with biopsy
Staging CT
Special Tests:
Test for HIV
