Check-in

A

Formalities through which a passenger has to go on departure, usually at the airport. (at airport, online, kiosk, etc).

For some airlines a passenger can also be checked-in online, in a hotel, in a lounge, by telephone or at the boarding gate. For some airlines the passenger can check himself in at a Self Service Check-in Kiosk (CUSSKI) and deliver their bags to the baggage drop-off machines (CUSSDOP)

Electronic System for Travel Authorization (USA visa waiver). Automated system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the USA. Passengers who applied for ESTA and ESTA accepted, do not need a visa for the USA.

Electronic Travel Authority (e-visa, e.g. Australia, New Zealand). Often reflects in airline check-in system. (NOK or OK to board).

Emergency Exit
Seat(s) on an aircraft which are near the emergency exit door. These seats are unsuitable for: - Disabled passengers - Children - Passengers needing assistance - Passengers travelling with pets in cabin.

Flight Coupon
Part of the air-ticket, containing details of the flight(s). Exists in paper version (paper ticket) and in digital version (e-ticket).

Form of indemnity is a form which some airlines use to clear themselves from any costs, fees or claims which are the result of the passengers situation, e.g. pregnancy, medical cases, transportation of animals etc.

Passenger without confirmed reservation waiting for last-minute seat. Passenger who does not hold a confirmed reservation, but who waits at the airport ready to travel in case a seat becomes available at the last minute. Some airlines offer cheap fares for such passengers. Passengers on stand-by are placed on a waiting list.

Travel Information Manual/system for passport, visa, health, customs requirements. Booklet (TIM=Travel Information Manual)) or digital system (Timatic=included in the check-in system) which gives us all information about travel document requirements (passport and visa), health and customs regulations for the passengers destinations.

Target Start-up Approval Time (departure timing by ATC). Departure timing decided by local ATC tower in accordance with capacity regulations at the departure airport.

Service for passengers to/from hotels or connecting flights. - Service provided for arriving or departing travellers to transport them to a certain point (mostly hotels). A standard element of an inclusive tour. Also indicates passengers connecting to another flight at an airport. - Transfer passengers are passengers who change aircrafts at an airport to reach their final destination.

Passenger in transit area or continuing on same aircraft. - The area behind the passport check and/or security check - The passenger who stays on board of an aircraft or leaves the aircraft for a short period of time, to return to same aircraft later to fly on to the next destination.

Online/digital check-in and boarding pass before departure. Check-in and print your boarding pass on your computer at home as from 24 hours prior to your scheduled departure. Also digital boarding pass in most cases allowed.
