Three Types of cell Junction
Tight, Desmosomes, Gap
Tight Junction
washers between cells (Ziploc)
a. plasma membrane proteins fuse together
b. Keeps things in or between cells and keeps other things out in extra cellular space
Desmosomes
The bolt
Have anchoring plaques on the inside of the cell
Extend fibers into extra cellular space
Fibers link up with another cell’s fibers
Allows for stretching and distribution of mechanical stress across many cells
Gap Junction
tubes or straws
a. Channels or tubes between cells that allow exchange of nutrients and ions.
