What is working with COTAs in group therapy?
- Working in smaller groups is preferable - but depending upon the population and the setting the OT may have up to 8 group members at a time
- If a COTA is co-leading the group with the OT (or another professional) the group may be as large as 12 persons and still be effective
- COTAs may lead groups independently, and design group interventions after demonstrating competence. The OT must approve the intervention prior to its implementation
- COTAs may contribute to evaluations conducted by the OT in areas of demonstrated competence
