What cells make up CVS?
CVS is placental tissue made up of trophoblasts (outer cells) & mesenchyme cells (inner).
Short term cultures (cyto trophoblasts), long term (mesenchyme cells).
Direct DNA extraction = cytotrophoblast
NB: Mesenchymal core culture results are more likely to reflect true fetal mosaicism than direct preparation.
Risk of miscarriage from CVS?
1-2% (RCOG). Can lead to infection & or leakage of A/F.
What gestation is CVS sampling carried out?
First trimester test: 11 to 13 wk gestation.
What % of CVS samples have CPM?
~1.5-2% have confined placental mosaicism.
