Characterized by disrtuption of consciousness, memory, ID, emotion, pereption, body representation, motor control, behavior

Diagnostic critera for dissociative

A

Cause significant distress/impairment

Not normal part of broadly accepted cultural or religious practice

Symptoms are intrusive and uncontrolable

Associated with loss of continuity of expereicne

Depersonalization/derealization disorder including course

A

Feelings of detachment from one’s body of mind (depersonalization) and/or perception of one’s surroundings as a dream (derealization)

Reality testing still intact

Onset before 40

May have preoccupation with symptoms

Dissociative amneisa

A

Inability to remember persoanl autobiographical information, usually related to a traumatic event

Too extensive to be explained by forgetfullness

A

Discrete period (car accident)
Loss of aspects of events (abuse)
Memory to ones whole lifetime
Abrupt, duration variable…resoluaiton clear cut and distressful

DIssociative fugue

A

Sudden and unexpected purposeful travel associated with inability to recall one’s past and confusion

Complete amnesia for previous life but unaware its forgetten

In fugue, tend to live quiet lives

DIssociative identity disorder

A

2 of more distinct personality traits with an inability to recall important persona linfo including daily events

“losing time” is most common symptoms

Involves a trauamtic preceipitant

Transition frm one personality to another is quick

Women more common

Considered most severe

A

Hypnosis or drug-assisted interviews and psychotherapy

Dissociative disorders

A

Sudden onset after emotiona trauma or conflict

Amneisa complete and well-delineated with abrupt remission

Cognitive and intellecutal abilities generally preserved

A

No clear indciation of emotional trauam

Amneisia is more patchty or gradual

Symptoms on occur in conext of substance/medicatioin use
