Oak characteristics
exceedingly strong, heavy and durable. It is an attractive light colour with a prominent grain and is resistant to fungal attack, thanks to its dense constitution and long-living nature, which must equip the tree for its long lifetime.
Oaks use in construction
When used to form the frame of a building, Oak, is easy and quick to work with allowing you to easily put your structure together.
Advantages of rotational moulding
Low costs, large parts can be made, different colours can easily be used, both symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes, one piece moulds are possible to be made
Injection moulding compared to rotational moulding
Fast and efficient production, low scrap rates, design flexibility, high output production, large material choice compared to rotational moulding
Advantages of anodising compared to painting
Anodising is less expensive, anodising provides corrosion resistance, natural metallic finish, no risk of adhesion failure
Advantages and performance characteristics of ABS
ABS offers a good balance of impact, heat, chemical and abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, tensile strength, surface hardness, rigidity and electrical characteristics
Advantages of metal die casting for high production quantities
High-speed production – Die casting provides complex shapes within closer tolerances than many other mass production processes. Little or no machining is required and thousands of identical castings can be produced before additional tooling is required.
6 Rs of sustainability
Repair, reuse, refuse, recycle, rethink, reduce
What is repair
What is reuse
What is refuse
What is reduce
What is rethink
What is recycle
What is rotational moulding
A process used mainly to manufacture hollow shape product, such as football, road cones, kayaks and storage tanks.
Moulds can be made from a few different materials: cast aluminium alloy, mild steel sheet, cast beryllium copper and electro formed copper nickel.
90% of the material used is polyethylene a polymer that is very versatile.
Advantages:
- Low costs
- Very large parts can be made
- Easy colour and resin
- Easy mild changes
- Both symmetrical and asymmetrical products can be made
- One piece moulds are possible to make
- Mould surfaces can be textured
Disadvantage:
What is lamination and its benefits
Chip board with a laminated surface Eg table
Benefits of Rotational moulding compared to injection moulding
Cheaper moulds, one piece moulds, very large parts can be made
Die casting compared to sand casting
Die casting a lot more expensive, intricate products, smaller products, much faster eg golf clubs
Sand casting much cheaper, bigger products, lack of finish on product eg metal vice
Benefits of built in obsolescence
Push for research and development for new technologies
