How does carb heat work

A

When you turn carb heat on, air is routed around exhaust pipe causing temp of fuel/ air mixture to warm up and not have carb ice. The trade off is drop in RPM because warm air is less dense which means decreased engine performance

What temperature is most common for carb ice

A

20 to 70 degrees F and high humidity. High humidity means more water vapor available to freeze and cause carb ice

Why does carb ice happen

A

The temperature of air/ fuel mixture decreases significantly when pressure is low and it’s sucked through narrow passage way called a Venturi

Explain how a battery and alternator work

A

The alternator is engine driven, and gives the battery continuous power. Without the alternator battery would die. Battery powers the electrical system in which powers things like lights, flaps, radios

A

Suck is when the fuel / air mixture is pulled into cylinder. Squeeze is pushing everything together into small area. Bang is when spark plug engines mixture. Blow is exhaust

A

Fuel pump sends fuel from tank to unit, unit regulates fuel needed for throttle setting, then sent to cylinders

A

Fuel sits in tank, air is sent through Venturi pulling fuel from the tank from pressure differential. Throttle valve at top controls how much of that mixture is let out

Why do we need to lean mixture
When climbing in altitude air becomes less dense. With less dense air, less air is getting to engine so we lean fuel to even that out
