Q

Fan break sequencing

A

Lead calls base heading and alt

Q

Blue water IIMC procedure

A

wing turns away from lead reporting side and direction
lead calls base altitude and heading

Q

Mountainous Terrain IIMC procedure

A

lead calls base heading, alt, airspeed
-2 turns base heading, climbs 200’ above base alt and slows 20 kias below base airspeed
-3 turns base heading climbs 400’ and slows 40 kias
etc

Q

Blind procedures

A

PAC tells crew blind
PNAC confirms also blind or takes control to maneuver
radio call blind with side number
turn away from last know position and climb 200’ above last known alt
Sec Lead coordinate carrier rendezvous

Cruise position

A

10’ step up (1-2” hub below horizon)
30 degree bearing (line up near aft cross tube and far forward cross tube bases for a V)

Q

t/o procedure

A

take runway in accordance with wind rules
turn 45 towards each other, inboard pilots look at other aircraft and clear aft and above
outboard pilot check inst
show ready with ldg/taxi lights
turn back to takeoff heading
take off normally with wing moving into cruise

Q

Crossover (straight and level)

A

wing initiates “skeeter flight crossover”
lead acknowledges and holds heading alt and airspeed
wing steps up to 20’ (far skid toe touching bottom of fuselage)
stablize
dip to slide then level dragging upper tail fin across leads mast
stabilize in new 30
drop to normal 10’ step up

Q

Cruise turns

A

wing initiates “skeeter flight cruise turns”
lead acknowledges but doesn’t maneuver until in area with sufficient space
lead verbalize “check Q” for 100 kias and roll to 20 deg AOB
hold altitude with cyclic maintaining const power, airspeed may decrease to no lower than 80 kias
at some point wing calls for reversal
Wing is using radius of turn to shift from outside to inside position and back allowing self to drag out 5-7 rotor diameters to prove the point
sight pic: inside turn 30 bearing near tip of horizontal stab where base of tail meets fuselage
sight pic: outside turn 30 bearing horizontal stab to top of where tail boom meets fuselage

Q

Climbs and Descents

A

wing initiate “Skeeter flight climbs and descents”
lead acknowledges only when in an area with enough room to do (10 DME or more to stay outside class C)
lead 500 fpm climbfor 1000’ 10-15 aob reversing part way through stabilize and undo for descent
Wing maintains cruise position, want to be inside turn for climbs and outside for descents

Q

Breakup and Rendezvous

A

wing initiates “skeeter flight breakup and rendezvouz”
lead acknowledges only when there is enough room
wing gives ready signal “skeeter ready right/left side”
lead 30 deg aob away from wing for 180 deg of turn
when lead goes through wing’s 45, wing chases with same parameters
should result in 800-1000’ of seperation
wing finds lead and places on horizon
wing signals by saying “skeeter” and clicking radio 2x
lead turns 20 aob flash then 10 aob for 180 deg of turn
wing use radius of turn to join up on leads 45 bearing (roughly pointed at lead’s sliding door)
as distance closes, wing slides into cruise position (wing may adjust airspeed in this maneuver)

Q

Overrun

A

part of B&R
approaching lead climb for 20’ step up
level wings and slide to outside of lead’s turn
stabilize in cruise
report “skeeter flight overrun”

16
Q

Lead change

A

wing initiates “skeeter flight lead change”
lead acknowledges
pilot on inboard side takes controls
lead holds heading, alt and speed
wing slides out and up
approaching abeam wing - “FH### in position for the lead”
lead - “FH### you have the lead”
“Rgr, FH### has the lead”
new wing drifts back to cruise position

17
Q

lead change on deck

A

same as in air but new lead taxis far enough forward to set 30 bearing
if a side swap is needed for winds, turn 90 towards each other, ensure separation, taxi forward, pedal turn back to T/O with lead never putting tail towards wing

18
Q

form landing pattern

A

normal 500’ agl 80 kias

19
Q

how does wing maneuver in the pattern

A

goal is to be upwind of lead so should swap positions once in climb and once in descent, think overlapping racetracks

on final 100’ wing splits scan
50’ wing picks landing spot
25’ wing confirms landing site good compared to lead and lands safely

20
Q

high speed approaches

A

wing - “Skeeter flight, high speed approaches”
lead makes traffic call before downwind
abeam downwind field boundary, descend to final for 100’ and 80 rollout
level off with collective at 100’ and 80 kias for 2 sec
then level speed change to steep approach profile
do a steep approach, wing matching leads descent profile
no hover landing

21
Q

wave off

A

if from outside: make internal call then power for 70 kias 500 fpm climb; once in climb lead makes external call
if internal: basically the same
if single: wing ensures lateral separation and still the same but internally reports wave off side and externally makes wave off call for a single aircraft

22
Q

Parade

A

wing “Skeeter flight parade”
lead acknowledges
fly to 45 bearing, 10’ step up, 1 rotor
use aft sliding door seal over far forward cross tube for 45

23
Q

Home field break

A

lead makes call NLT entry point
section maneuvers to get over approach end 300’ agl 100 kias
wing in parade on opposite side of break turn (turn will be away from tower)
over intended point of landing, lead executes a level turn to 300’ 70 kias in downwind
as lead passes through wing’s 45 wing does the same thing, will end up in trail
both aircraft conduct normal approaches

24
Q

section IIMC

A

someone calls popeye
perform as briefed
check in
