Tikanga
It means to be correct, accurate, true, right, fair and proper. Tikanga is the process of doing things the right way. When we think of this is can be seen as a set of values and practices that have been developed over time and they are deeply embedded inside of the whānau, hapū and iwi.
Kawa
This refers to the marae protocol. It refers to the customs and practices of the marae and wharenui. It relates to the formal processes that take place on the marae, such as põwhiri (formal welcomes), whaikõrero (formal speeches) and mihimihi (speeches of greeting or introduction).
