What is the motor homunculus?
Size of cortical surface responsible for part of the body is proportional to the degree of motor control needed for that part
Hierachy of motor cortices
1 and 2 stores memory and learns.
Lesion to upper motor pathways?
Paresis or spastic paralysis. Hypertonia: Increased tone, as only neurons and spinal cord involved
Lesion to lower motor pathways?
Flaccid paralysis. Hypotonia: Weak muscle, lost of outflow despite wanting to initiate movement, no contraction.
Apraxia meaning
As if movement never been learned despite muscle working fine (probs damage to prefrontal or secondary motor systems)
