The HTN initiates baroreceptor response, mediating inhibition of heart rate and vasodilation of vessels above the level of injury (upper body flushing). Descending signals from the brain cannot pass the cord injury so inhibition of sympathetic neurons below injury does not occur. BP can be dangerously high.
