Q

What are locations and functions of epithelial tissues?

A
  1. Simple squamous — passage of material by diffusion and filtration; kidneys, glomeruli, capillaries
  2. Stratified squamous — protection; skin, lining of the mouth and esophagus
  3. Simple cuboidal — secretion and absorption; kidney tubules, ducts of glands, ovaries
  4. Simple columnar — Absorption and secretion of mucus and enzymes; digestive tract, gallbladder
  5. Transitional — stretching; urinary bladder

Q

What are the locations and functions of connective tissue?

A
  1. Bone — supports and protects
  2. Hyaline cartilage — supports, reinforces, cushions; ribs, nose, embryo
  3. Fibrocartilage — absorbs shock; intervertebral discs
  4. Elastic cartilage — maintains shape; ear
  5. Dense tissue — attaches bone to bone and muscle to bone; tendons and ligaments
  6. Adipose tissue — cushioning, heat source, energy source; under skin
  7. Reticular tissue — fibers to support other cells; spleen bone marrow and lymph nodes
  8. Blood — transports oxygen and nutrients and wastes; arteries, veins, capillaries
