Q

what is proaction

A
  • must improve your standing to keep it ( its not sponsored), you need it its not voluntary
  • farmers demonstrate 6 distinct areas to excel in farming:
  • milk quality, food safety, animal care, livestock tracibility, biosecurity and environment
  • incorporates the lastest research and technological innovations and evolves continously

  • 400 000 somatic cell count/ml ( higher somatic cell counts = mastitis and low production)
  • max freezing point ( -0.525 hortvet, confirming its milk and not diluted componenets

17
Q

specific requirements are

A
  • biosecurity risk assessment completed witht eh vet to adress biosecurity risks on farm
  • recording specific disease event for cows and calves
18
Q

environment

A
  • provincial gov regulation doesnt always follow national regulations
  • the proaction environment component is a recent addition to the proAction program

  • dairy farms will continue to support research that will improve farm environmental sustainability
  • dairy farmers are commiteed to caring for the environment , the health of their land is essential to the contiued success of their farm
19
Q

proAvtion standards of excellence

A
  • its mandatory and its 82 requirements are measurable and verifiable on all canadian dairy farms
  • farmers keep meticulous records and their practices are verified annually and audited every two years by trained, independent professionals
  • proaction modules and requirements are carfully tested, evaluated and updated regularly based on the latest scientific evidence
