What is speaking?
It’s a productive skill. In short, we can define speaking as the ability to use our speech to communicate meaning to other people.
Subskills in speaking
Use of grammar and functions; use of register; features of connected speech; body language; producing text types; oral fluency.
Interactive strategies
These are ways to keep people interested and involved in what we are saying. E.g. Gestures, facial expressions, clarofying our meaning, asking for opinions, agreeing, etc.
Turn-taking
It involves using intonation, language or body language to show you want to join a conversation or end one.
