Construction
Five components
- base
- barrel
- top boss
- water head
- spindle
Base
- rotating collar to fit under hydrant lugs
- fixed collar working as stop for rotating collar and seat for washer
- washer ensures water-tight seal
- disc to engage/depress the ball valve in the hydrant.
Barrel
- directs water from hydrant to water head
Top boss
- tightening handles for shipping and in shipping the standpipe.
Water head
- two stranded 64mm male couplings with black cap fitted to one side
- water tight gland assembly at base to allow for head to be rotated.
Spindle
- T-handle at top and concave disc at the bottom.
- T-handle controls water discharge from the outlet
Operation
Incorporates FF Skill 4 (ship standpipe) and FF Skill 5 (unship standpipe)
Safety
- never put your head over the spindle when shipping/unshipping the standpipe or turning the T-handle.
- wear appropriate PPE and ensure your visor is down when shipping the standpipe.
- look for hazards in hydrant pits when shipping standpipes (needles, spiders/ants).
- ensure hoseline is connected at both ends before changing the hoseline.
