Extraneous variables

A

Any variable other than the independent variable that may affect the dependent variable and therefore influence the results of an experiment in an unwanted way.

Confounding variables

A

Variables that have affected the results, apart from the independent variable. It may have been an extraneous variable that has not been controlled for, or it can be a type of variable that cannot be controlled for.

A

Variables that a researcher holds constant in an investigation.
