1

Mutualism

a relationship between two species that benefits both species. most organisms on earth have a mutualistic relationship with another species

2

Reasons for Mutualism

1. food/nutrients
2. protection
3. space/habitat
4. mating

3

symbiotic

living together

4

Obligate Mutualism

when the resource supplied by the mutualistic interaction is required for survival

5

Commensalism

A relationship between two species that benefits one species and has no impact on the other. much rarer in nature than mutualism.

6

this can be a slippery slope that can quickly lead to competition

commensalism

7

Amensalism

A relationship between two species that has a negative effect on one species and no effect on the other. super rare in nature
