Transcient Receptor Potential Channels: Respond to strong stimuli which transmit pain.
Ex. Chili pepper sensation

Outside the spinal cord; Dorsal root ganglia
What part of the brain modulators pain information sent from the sensiry cortex/hypothalamus?
Periaqueductal grey matter
What are the three classes of endogenous opioids?

What is gate control theory?
Discomfort stimulus from skin travel along sensory neuron to dorsal horn, synapsids with motor neurons, travels along spinal nerve to skeletal muscle causing withdrawal from pain stimulus.
Ex. Rubbing hand after a cut stimulates receptors of innocuous stimuli
What is Parasthesias?
Numbness or tingling
What is dyestesias?
Electric shock phenomenon
Hyperesthesia
Increased sensitivity to mild painful stimuli
Hyperalgesia
Increased sensitivity to normally painful stimuli
Hyperpathia
Pain produced by normally non painful stimuli
Define phantom pain
Pain perceived to arise from a part of body that has been amputated
How does somatic pain differ from visceral pain?
Somatic:
- Sharp
- A-delta fibers
- Localized
Generalized:
- Generalized
- Ache, pressure
- C Fiber type
